Halton Recycling — SSO Diversion & Cogen Facility
Newmarket, Ontario, Canada
Source Separated Organics (SSO) Diversion and Co-Generation Facility at Halton Recycling Ltd, 395 Harry Walker Parkway, Newmarket, Ontario. Designed and operated by Dr. Emmanuel G. Moya as General Manager then VP-Operations for Emterra Environmental. The facility processes SSO collected from residences and businesses in the City of Toronto. The system features twin screw conveyors, hydrocyclone grit purging, screw presses for dewatering, wood chip dual mixers for composting preparation, computerized maturation monitoring (pH, temperature, humidity at 3 levels), wet air scrubbers, a methanizer tank for biogas production, and an 820 KW co-generator for converting biogas to electrical power. The Accelerated Totally Enclosed Compost Maturation System was developed during Dr. Moya’s tenure here, together with Patent Publication #20090145188. This project demonstrates the breadth and depth of Dr. Moya’s hands-on experience as designer-engineer on record for proven, actual installations.
